Prototypes and concepts
A collection of concepts that never took flight, or were personal projects
Proton prime blaster
A paper craft, punch out and fold add on for the Transformers Masterpiece Ghostbusters SDCC Exclusive, this was unfortunately deemed to look too much like a real gun by the legal department and was dead after pilot production. Only a handful of these were ever made, but they would have hook and looped to the side of the Proton Pack backpack.
Raspberry pi - retro-pi gift set
This personal project was for a friend’s birthday gift, and included everything he needed to plug in and play his very first Retro-Pi gaming setup. Some graphics were wrapped around this by another graphic designer to make it look more pie like for the joke.
Botbots Vending Machines
On the never ending quest to have the most unique unboxing experience at Hasbro, the BotBots team tasked me with exploring how the BotBots might be sold as a set where kids could pretend they were playing with some sort of vending machine or coin operated gumball machine. These used special BotBot capsules to hold the figures.
funko popsies interview project
Funko Popsies are lower price point Funko Vinyl figures with a spring loaded message inside their heads that pop out when you push the button at the base of the figure. Funko let me know that these live mostly in the greeting card section of Walmart and other stores, and they should be treated as as such. What I found was there was very limited space to add a personalized message, and no way to send the figure in the mail. This concept allows the user to fold out the back of the card and use the packaging itself as a mailer at USPS (and yes, I brought one to the post office and tried shipping it.) They loved the concept, but things didn’t pan out for other reason for the position.
Fold Flat Dice Tower
I play a lot of table top RPGs and I’m usually stuck being the DM/GM. I love rolling dice in a dice tower, but hate having one that takes up a bunch of space. I built this collapsible dice tower I can tuck into my Dungeon Master Guide, or in my backpack without taking up a ton of room. The final concept would have had some sort of magnetic closure or hook and loop system to keep it closed.
Show, Tell, and Think Empathy Game Prototype
This prototype version of the Show, Tell, and Think Empathy Game featured a pulp tray that more securely stored the cards and spinner, and also acted as a way to display the cards during game play. Inspired by a Monopoly money tray, the cards could be cascaded and easily sorted for gameplay. You can see the final version over on on the Chipboard packaging page.
Various Camping Gear Packaging Concepts
During my time at NEMO, I was tasked with coming up with a variety of new and exciting ways to packaging their camping gear. This included displays, more eco friendly materials, gift sets, and other more product focused changes, some of which are implemented today. These concepts hit the cutting room floor, but were shopped around to various suppliers and buyers, who were interested in the concepts.
